Diam’s new cork stopper bridges functionality and aesthetics
28/11/2024
LeFrench cork stopper manufacturer Diam Bouchage, a subsidiary of wine producing group Oeneo, unveiled its latest innovation – Collection by Diam – at the 2024 edition of Vinitech in Bordeaux.
Following Diam’s offer of expanded permeability options for its corks dedicated to long-keeping wines, Diam 10 and Diam 30, and the growth of the Origine by Diam range of biosourced corks, the stopper specialist unveiled a prototype of a new cork, Collection by Diam. Developed to mimic the look of traditional corks, but optimized to control of oxygenation of wines, the supplier has combined a core of micro-agglomerated cork with a thin outer layer of premium cork. The latter layer is treated with Diam’s proprietary Diamant – a coating technique that leverages CO2 for the stopper’s dearomatization which promises to eliminate up to 150 molecules responsible for sensory deviations that can affect bottled wine. The patent-pending process covers the entire surface of the cork.
