Nuon Medical rethinks packaging as an application system.
At Nuon Medical, packaging is no longer limited to containing a formula. It dispenses it, combines it with massage, red light or vibrations. The challenge now is to bring formulation, application and technology together within a single object.
The formula no longer works alone
Nuon Medical's developments are structured around three areas: hair, face and body. Across all three, the company applies the same integration approach. The application device becomes an integral part of the perceived performance: it dispenses the formula, targets the treatment area and can incorporate massage, red light or vibration. Packaging therefore becomes a true application system.
The challenge goes far beyond simply adding an electronic component. It depends on the compatibility between the formula's texture, its delivery method, the treatment area and the duration of use. A formula that is too viscous, an insufficient flow rate or a poorly defined application gesture can be enough to compromise the entire concept.
Hair care: a highly specialized field
Hair care has become a major focus of Nuon Medical's developments. "For hair, we have more and more proposals because we have realized that it is highly technical and very specific," explain the company's representatives.
The scalp is not approached as a uniform surface. The choice of device depends on the diagnosis, the condition of the hair and the intended treatment objective. The massage brush illustrates this approach: it features a 5 ml reservoir that dispenses the formula directly onto the scalp before distributing it while massaging the hair. Combined with red light, the massage is designed to stimulate microcirculation and enhance the absorption of active ingredients.
"Depending on the diagnosis, different technologies may be suitable because people do not lose their hair for the same reasons," Nuon Medical's representatives explain. The device must therefore respond to a specific condition rather than simply carry a formula.
Compatibility between the formula and the technology remains a key requirement. "In general, the brand we work with already has its own formula. We then need to determine whether that formula is compatible with the technologies we plan to implement," the company's representatives explain. Viscosity, in particular, can become an important adjustment parameter.
