Biography
Mikko Samuli VAIJA started his career at Orange, the French telecommunications operator. His first field of work covered subjects such as smartphone life cycle assessment and environmental labelling, as well as eco-design of home network equipment. In 2016 he joined the network branch of Orange to investigate the question of circular economy applied to large equipment such as servers, firewalls or routers. This work was concluded with the participation in the publication of several international standards, focusing on how circular economy can be used as a metric for network equipment purchase and how the environmental benefits of this business model can be assessed. In 2022 he joined Chanel Fragrances & Beauty, with the objective of setting up an internal life cycle assessment tool tailored for the packaging, formula and SPM engineers, by leveraging the data available in the company's product life-cycle management software. During the last years he also contributed to the development of the Eco-Beauty Score, to improving Chanel's carbon footprint accuracy and to working closely with the suppliers to reduce the environmental footprint of their supply chain.
