Keskeny – The Green Printing Concept: a holistic approach to sustainability

Keskeny’s Green Printing Concept is a holistic approach to sustainability that begins with our own environmentally conscious operations, continues through tailored sustainable packaging design and material consultancy for our clients, and culminates in climate-neutral production options. This integrated model ensures that both our manufacturing and the packaging we help create contribute meaningfully to a reduced environmental footprint.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Our internal changes already demonstrate measurable environmental results.
Thanks to our solar power plant, about 30% of our annual electricity needs are now covered by renewable energy.

At the same time, the Hydrobank heat storage system, developed specifically to reclaim waste heat from our machinery and production halls, has allowed us to drastically reduce our natural gas consumption.
Across all departments:
- waste is selectively collected,
- the recyclability of our raw and auxiliary materials is approaching 100%.
These operational changes form the foundation of our client services.
Our packaging development team now actively supports customers in making more sustainable choices by integrating environmental thinking from the earliest phases of packaging design.

We encourage the use of:
- FSC- or PEFC-certified paper and board,
- as well as a wide range of recycled and low-impact materials,
all carefully selected to meet both aesthetic and functional requirements.
At the same time, we now offer project-based climate-neutral production, certified by external partners.
This allows brands to achieve a fully carbon-compensated packaging solution, from raw materials to the final product.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The Green Printing Concept was born from a simple conviction: true sustainability must start at home.
As a printing and packaging company, we recognized early on that our environmental responsibility does not end at delivering eco-certified materials — it begins with rethinking our own production.
As a printing and packaging company, we recognized early on that our environmental responsibility does not end at delivering eco-certified materials — it begins with rethinking our own production.
From this starting point, we developed a comprehensive program that now combines internal sustainability actions with client-focused services aimed at creating responsible and elegant packaging.
Overall objective: significantly reduce our environmental impact and extend this benefit to the entire packaging value chain.
To achieve this, we committed to:
- transitioning to renewable energy sources,
- investing in innovative heat recovery and waste management systems,
- developing a sustainable offering for our clients that includes:
packaging design consultancy,
a wide selection of recycled and eco-certified materials,
access to project-based climate-neutral production.
PROJECT INITIATION
The concept was initiated in response to growing internal awareness and external pressure for sustainable solutions.
Instead of focusing on a single technological upgrade or isolated campaign, we envisioned a three-tiered strategy to align our business with long-term environmental goals.
- Investments in renewable energy, including a 1,170 kW photovoltaic plant and the proprietary Hydrobank heat reuse mechanism.
- Creation of a multidisciplinary team to develop sustainable packaging frameworks, identify viable materials, and integrate these options into product development and sales.
- Structuring and launching a scalable model for project-based climate-neutral production — an offering that has become a key differentiator in our market.
PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
Implementing such a comprehensive transformation naturally came with challenges.
Coordinating large-scale infrastructure investments — from the solar park to the Hydrobank system — required careful planning to avoid operational disruptions.

Internal alignment across departments was essential, as sustainability had to become a shared value rather than a top-down directive. Training and awareness-raising played a crucial role.
On the client side, the biggest challenge was education: helping partners understand not only the “why” but also the “how” of sustainable packaging.
We addressed this by incorporating consulting services into our design process, allowing clients to co-develop packaging that meets both environmental and branding needs.

INVOLVEMENT
This initiative would not have reached its current stage without the strong involvement of our employees.
From production line operators to sales and logistics teams, everyone participated through workshops, training, and active involvement in sustainability planning.

Selective waste collection, optimized energy use, and digital resource management are now integrated into everyday tasks.
Employees also directly benefit from the initiative: for example, electric vehicle charging stations have been installed at two sites, available for both company cars and private vehicles.
Many of our colleagues have become ambassadors for green practices in client interactions, contributing to a wider culture of responsibility and awareness.

RESULTS
The environmental benefits of the Green Printing Concept are visible both in our operations and in the services we offer:
- our solar system covers 30% of the factory’s energy needs,
- the Hydrobank system significantly reduces natural gas consumption for heating and cooling,
- a broad portfolio of sustainable materials (FSC/PEFC certified, recycled, recyclable),
- climate-neutral production service enabling clients to offset the entire carbon footprint of their packaging,
- waste management practices resulting in near-total recyclability of raw materials and finished products,
- hundreds of clients have already integrated sustainable materials into their packaging with our support.
Beyond the numbers, the cultural impact is also substantial: our employees are more engaged, our clients more conscious, and our suppliers more aligned with sustainable practices.
ADDITIONAL ELEMENTS
Keskeny’s Green Printing Concept is more than an internal transformation: it is a complete rethinking of the value chain.
We believe that our responsibility does not end at the factory gate, and that true sustainability lies in empowering others to make better choices.
What makes our initiative unique is the way it connects three levels of action:
- responsible internal operations,
- informed client collaboration,
- certified low-impact production.
Each of these elements reinforces the others, creating a system where every packaging project becomes an opportunity to reduce environmental impact without compromising aesthetics, functionality, or quality.
In an industry where “green” is often reduced to marketing, we offer something more concrete and verifiable.
Whether it’s the energy from our solar panels, the heat recovered by our Hydrobank, the FSC-certified board in a client’s new box, or the CO₂ credits allocated to a luxury brand’s packaging, every element of our Green Printing Concept is designed to make a real, measurable difference.

This is sustainability not as an extra, but as a system and a shared path forward.
