Luxe Pack Monaco 2019: Innovations in capping

2021/12/01

Zoom on some of the new products presented at Luxe Pack Monaco in the field of closures.

Dow, Surlyn recycles

With Surlyn, its flagship material dedicated to the perfumes and cosmetics market, Dow is committed to the circular economy. The result of a collaboration with Premi, an Italian manufacturer of packaging for cosmetics, Dow now offers caps containing 40% of recycled Surlyn (PC2000 and PC2200 grades) from industrial waste. According to the manufacturer, this offer has the same quality as virgin Surlyn, adding that “a percentage of 40% recycled is already very ambitious”. The range will be marketed by Premi.

Guala Closures, connectivity in focus

Nestgate is a collection of seven connected closures for various markets including wine, spirits and olive oil. “Wooden and cork head, anti-filling caps, aluminum or resin cladding for the luxury sector,” the closures are equipped with an NFC chip. All you have to do is bring a smartphone close to the cap to access traceability or marketing functions. To complement its offer, Guala Closures is working on other technologies: the integration of flash codes, voice connection systems, and augmented reality.

Les Bouchages Delage, corks are being modernized

The Cognac-based company has presented two corks for spirits. Tandem brings a touch of modernism to the traditional wooden stopper with a matte colored elastomer band that encircles the edge. It is available in natural beech in two diameters (34 mm and 47 mm); the band can be colored in an “infinite number of shades” according to the manufacturer to recall the other elements of the pack such as the label or the box. The cap head can be decorated by laser marking or pad printing. Solo is a one-piece weighted stopper for carafes, a first for the company: “no welding, no gluing, no zamak inserts, not even visible sealing surfaces”. The stopper is injected with a densified material followed by a second injection in ABS skin that follows its shape.

EOS Innovation, a closure for champagne

Harmony is a new type of stopper for champagne. Imposing, it is intended to give volume to the often small caps of large jeroboam-type bottles, and thus to harmonize the bottle’s silhouette. Its large grip is supposed to facilitate the opening. Made of zamak, it is fixed on the cork after corking. The twisted wire cage is placed on top. This over-cork is customizable thanks to the worm that can be printed in relief, decorated with enamel or with rhinestones.
