New containers with Les Bougistes!

LUXE HOME - 2023/09/18

In June 2021, Axel Nosten took over Les Bougistes, a company founded in 2009. Determined to give the company a new lease of life and set it apart in the personalized candle market, he chose to focus on the originality of its containers.

A textured black receptacle that resembles a cut ostrich egg, along with black wax and a wick… This is the kind of unique project that visitors can admire at Les Bougistes’ booth in the LUXE Home space. “It’s a great illustration of my ambition for Les Bougistes: to offer brands truly innovative candles, designed as unique objects,” summarizes Axel Nosten.

“In this market, most players have a good grasp of customization possibilities: lacquering, silk-screen printing, hot stamping… Of course, you can play with colors, combine techniques, but in the end, it’s more or less the same thing!” Recognizing this, Axel Nosten decided to innovate not only on the nature of the candle containers but also on the boxes and other secondary packaging. To achieve this, he doesn’t hesitate to tap into the skills of various living heritage artisans to create entirely novel containers (such as a ceramicist for the “ostrich egg” candle created for Givenchy), but he also keeps a close watch on materials.

The goal is, of course, differentiation from the competition, but also the promotion of eco-responsibility. This led him to develop original prototypes of candles using recycled brick, recycled windshield glass, recycled seashells, to name just a few examples. “It’s a lengthy process because you have to find the right partners, but also validate that these containers can withstand heat and wax,” Axel Nosten points out. “In any case, each creation is the result of co-construction, involving not only our partners but, most importantly, the client.”
